Tennis Career

Chris Everett began taking tennis lessons when she was five years old from her father.  By 1969, she was the number one girls 14-u in the U.S.  On a small clay court in Charlotte North Carolina, she defeated Margarett Court 7-6 7-6 in the semi- finals.
In 1971 Everett made her grand slam debut, in the U.S. open at the age of 16.  She lost to Billie Jean King in the Semi-final match.  Her game was best suited to be played on clay because she set up and enjoyed her solid strokes from the back of the court not very often rushing the net.
